“Goneis” magazine, the only global Greek family publication, provides its reading community with a wide variety of subjects.

First of all, it gives valuable information in Child Psychology, which helps parents to better understand their children and have an optimistic outlook in their future development. There is no doubt that happy parents can raise happy children.

Additionally, “Goneis” magazine sheds light on Greek traditions and history with articles written in a comprehensive language.

A few of these articles are written in Greek, which gives the opportunity to Greek speakers maintain or improve their fluency in a language that is very significant historically.

Apart from these, it provides extensive information on Music Education and Sports for the children. It helps understand how important it is for a child to have a musical experience in the first years of his/her life.

Therefore, we strongly recommend it to families all over the world, especially to those of Greek origin.

I am very excited that such a magazine is in print regarding Greek ethnicity. It is timely for the new generation.

New Web magazine aims to help strengthen tradition, family ties!
Greensboro’s Dina Teka-Efstathiou wants her sons — Elias and Symeon — to know their Greek heritage and celebrate their family values and traditions throughout their lives. To fulfill those desires and continue the strong family tradition in the entire Greek Orthodox society, Teka-Efstathiou set out on a mission two years ago to create her own magazine. Her hard work paid off last month, as she launched the inaugural issue of Goneis, or Parents, to a global audience via the Internet. The magazine has found success through networking with other Greek Orthodox Web sites and by word of mouth, garnering more than 20,000 hits in its first month.

“We want to keep traditions alive,” said Teka-Efstathiou, who moved to the United States 10 years ago. “Our ancestors over the past century have built strong communities. But still in our individual families, we didn’t have a modern publication that reflected the family of the 21st century”.

Teka-Efstathiou describes her magazine as being based on family-oriented values, but in a “cosmopolitan” way. She aims to have something for everyone in her Web-based publication, including features on culture, education, language, travel, health, interviews, spiritual wisdom, and fun and games. And it’s not aimed just at Greeks, either. All articles are written in English. “I wanted to reach people beyond cities and national borders,” Teka-Efstathiou said. “We want to bring people closer together. Family is the most important institution for all Greeks; we feel we owe the continuation of our values to our ancestors because we have a very rich history. Having a family publication puts all of these values in one forum. It gives us a place to pass our values down to our children.”

Dear Mrs. Efstathiou,
I really enjoyed the Spring 2008 issue of Goneis. Congratulations on another wonderful issue that contains so many informative items. I liked best Dr. Claire Hughes article on the several generations, recognizing myself [veteran] and members of my family [boomers and busters] as well as many of our friends and their children [including a number of millenials]. Of course your articles on Hellenic Roots, especially the wedding in Skaloma, really satisfied my craving for history. And thank you so much for running Andrew Christakos' book review of my book "Demetrios Is Now Jimmy".
